Homecomming Dance

by Pinto Bean Power   Sep 30, 2004

Homecoming came along,
When I thought you were not there I was wrong.

My hips swayed from left to right.
When I looked up, you were in plain sight.

You drug me away from all my friends,
And asked why I was here.
I looked at all the different trends,
Wondering why my friends were nowhere near.

I told him I was dancing,
Just the same as him.
I was wearing nothing fancy,
So why was he staring as if I were too slim?

The way his eyes were not moving,
I knew he thought I looked good.
He was weaving under my skin again...
But I would dance with him if he would.

He asked who I was here with.
I told him with my friends.
The way he smiled made my spirit lift,
Unfortunately, this was where it would usually end.

I expected a good-bye,
Or I will see you around.
Instead out of my eyes,
He was still standing before me with his feet on the ground!

His smile faded then,
He gazed straight into my eyes.
That is when he began to bend,
And he narrowed his eyes.

Why do you not have a date?
Was the next shocking question.
My eyes were as big as plates
as I answered with a truthful one.

I do not know.
It actually was the truth.
I felt my tears ready to flow,
and I was ready to move...
but my legs felt like jell-o.

Nobody had ever asked me to a dance.
Not one single guy.
I was in a lonesome trance,
It felt like I was gonna die.

It was my turn to make a suggestion of my own.
I told him to tell me why I did not have a date.
His eyes were full of confusion,
So I guessed that I would wait.

Finally, he shrugged.
He closed his eyes so
he could not see.
I knew he had decided to hide the signs
he had left for me.

This usually happened,
It was not new.
I wish I could win him...
With everything that I knew.

We walked away from each other,
I knew I would never see him again.
I think we liked each other...
A little more than friends.
