Speed Limit (A Villanelle)

by Sean Allen   Oct 6, 2004

I have found my obscure reality;
street lights distort as I leave them behind.
I've reached my terminal velocity.

The engine screams a lonely rhapsody,
preaching and teaching me only to find
I have found my obscure reality.

The wind speaks, and I can only agree
that my life has been weary and unkind.
I've reached my terminal velocity.

I remember the day that you left me,
violently hurt me and shattered my mind.
I have found my obscure reality.

You had always been my one and only,
as I have said to you multiple times.
I've reached my terminal velocity.

I was so bright but now I glow faintly.
I am tired and old now, creased and lined.
I have found my obscure reality.
I've reached my terminal velocity.

Good stuff my man. Flowed with a strong rhythm and i really liked the last stanza. In my opinion (even though I'm a poet with 4 days experience) flawless.

Sean, haven't been on in a while but going to look up some of your most recent poems over the next week..I thought this was great! I always admire the poets on here that make the effort to use different forms of poetry and rhyming patterns..mypoems are all more simple and really no format at all, they just rhyme usually!! Quite obviously, I'm an amateur!!! Great poem, will check out more as the week goes on...take care, Michelle :)

Dark, brooding, thoughtful, wistful, ravaged. I think this is great.
