Amends

by Michael D Nalley   Oct 11, 2004

When we harm another we must make amends
With love and forgiveness we can all be friends
Moving toward the light where love never ends
Accepting grace the heavenly Father sends

Once I was so proud, but now I have learned
That I owe to the Lord, all that I have earned
Though we have a debt to Him, it has been paid
Trust in His loving mercy. Do not be afraid

On this earth to live together we must toil
We must share the burdens to avoid turmoil
Yet it is not how much we do that is our worth
God has given us dignity before our birth

With dignity and worth we all should face
Our duty to our loved ones without disgrace
It is our own hearts, which will bleed
If we take more than we really need

Sometimes we hurt without intending
Believing our ways need no amending
Love is sometimes taking and giving
Lord, help me amend the life I am living
