False Prophets of Doom

by Michael D Nalley   Oct 12, 2004

Lord, there are many false prophets that predict doom
I look deep in their hearts to see if there is room
For a hope of a future that they seem to presume
As if they could see from the cradle to the tomb

They seek only to fill hearts with fear and despair
Believe they can love, but they do not have to care,
About their neighbors, who don't have the hope of a prayer?
Suggesting I should live like a hermit in solitaire

I know they mean well when, they try to protect me from pain
But I seem to lose their understanding when I explain
Sometimes bearing a cross can lead us to a holy gain
As long as our intentions are not unholy or profane

It is true I have gotten into trouble when I have left my solitary hell
But thus far the merciful Lord has pulled me from the pit, where I carelessly fell
I don't claim to be a prophet of God, what the future is I can't tell
Lord, nourish me at Your altar, so I may serve You and my brother well

My trust is in the prophet of hope to whom You are the source
Help me to make the right decisions as I follow Loves course
