Eaten Alive

by Nicholas   Oct 15, 2004

A veil of darkness
envelopes my heart
A nocturnal creature,
tears it apart.
Blood flows in rivers,
beneath my skin.
I will never forgive her,
she let this thing in.
The world must believe
as insane as it seems
But this woman I speak of
was born in my dreams
When and where she escaped,
she left a great hole
And that's how this creature
crawled into my soul.
It must have entered
in a larval stage
For it fed with such
an insatiable rage
That it soon had consumed
all I contained
It wished to resume
but nothing remained.
That is except for
the memories I held
Upon their discovery
this monster swelled
It vented it's anger
by climbing my spine.
And thoroughly ravaging
my soft-spoken mind.
While, outside I was so
infatuated with you.
I knew naught of this creature
Nor what it could do.
In what seemed like a moment
the Evil had eaten
Everything tangible
it couldn't be beaten.
And yet I began a battle
I could never win.
For no God-made human
can alone defeat sin
But in all of it's gluttony
the djinn's defense went slack
It allowed itself to show
its opponent its back.
So now it's all over
And though I had won
My sadness had doubled
the beauty had gone.
But now I know
She'd not been from above.
She was truly a demon
A demon called love.
