Not As It Seems

by Chelsea R.   Oct 17, 2004

Everyone knew her name
sixteen and happy as could be
she was all the girls' envy
but no one could ever really see

wake up at 5:00
pretend it's all okay
paint on a happy face
make it through another day

she's all alone in this world
her parents are never there
rich lawyers and always leaving
sent money "to show they care"

she has a lot of friends
but they don't really know
they just sit with her at lunch and go to the mall
her true feelings she can't show

prom queen two years in a row
and captain of the cheer team
lives in a mansion
but things aren't as they seem

feels like she has to be perfect
just to please them all
but really she just wants to escape
show them she too can fall

her boyfriend's the quarterback
she's as gorgeous as can be
and her life seems so perfect
but no one can really see

she can't take trying to be perfect
finally takes a blade
slits her wrists and makes it bleed
cries and watches her life fade
