Priorities

by Michael D Nalley   Oct 17, 2004

When searching our souls for the priorities in our lives
We ask what is the most important goal that really drives?
Some say it is a passion for sex that drives us
Maybe to leave something behind that survives us

Others say it is security that gives them the most pleasure
It is dangerous to seek the passion that most of us treasure
They keep their small boats secured, and very close to the shore
Satisfied with what they have, without the desire for more

Yet others are never satisfied, with a passion for power
They seek only to rule and control in their ivory tower
Rather to rule in their hells, than serve in paradise
Some will become dictators with a heart cold as ice

Sometimes the passion for our religion can cause us to forget about Love
As we follow the rules of authority, that should lead to the Lord above
In the confusion we are divided by the priorities that I am speaking of
If our priority is the rules, how can we unite with the peace of the Dove?

If religion were the reflection of love and good deeds
It probably would take care of all of our passions and needs
But if we forget religion is a path, not our destination
How can the Lord return paradise to earth in its restoration?

Who would deny that we need, sex, security,
Power, religion, and Love to exist?
But I believe only the wise put charity
At the top of their priority list

Love takes naught, but from itself, God is Love, and our Lord was here first
It is the love of God, and neighbor that satisfies our passionate thirst

Interesting way of summoning what life is all about, but what for me would be I am derived by my family, they are what motivate me, so I guess it's security, love is a passenger side on my life, not really important for the moment, but essential in life later on. 5/5
