Ugly Duckling Dreams

by Marcie   Oct 19, 2004

She wanted it so bad
To be a beauty queen
But somewhere down that road
It became an impossible dream.

She went to the first meeting
Not knowing what was in mind
And when she signed up
Her strength is what she’d find.

She practiced her talent like know other
And memorized her speech
But unfortunately for her
Her destination wouldn’t be reached.

On the preliminary day
She tried her hardest with a smile
But she was wasting her time
And none of it worth while.

So when the time to get her letter came
She packed her stuff
And walked right to the door
She already had enough.

She wasn’t gonna open it
Until she got home
But all the pretty girls asked
If she made it on

So she dropt her stuff on the floor
Just to find out
That she wasn’t good enough
And her dreams were fears and doubts

The letter read so plainly
For anyone to see
That for contestant 15
Her dreams were crushed for free

The next day all her friends asked
And said they were surprised to find out
That she wasn’t in the pageant
And she was one of the ones the judges dropt out.

Everyone said “I’m so sorry,
I was sure you’d get in!”
“That can’t be right, with your singing
I thought you would win”

But they had forgotten one thing
For the girl with big dreams,
Had nothing of looks or charm,
And the sun faded the beams.

All she has now are tears
From all the hard work worth nothing
And this was a lesson for the girl
That dreams were only for ugly ducklings.

*All though I was not selected for the Final Pageant, congratulations to all of the Miss Highland contestants, and a big hug to all of us who worked so hard to receive nothing at all. I had so much fun working with all of you except you little miss Jamie.*

Mia don't let them bring you down. You are an amazing person and it is their loss...They don't know what they're missing.
