Fairy tales

Kiss of life,
They called it,
In the fairy tales
But what power has love,
When all else fails.

Follow your heart,
They tell you,
Love shall guide the way.
My heart is but a hardened shell,
Breaking a little more each day.

"The one" is out there somewhere
They say,
Waiting for you to call,
Waiting to fulfill your every dream,
Waiting to give you all.

But does that mean we get one chance,
Only one shot at true love.
One special bond that lovers hold,
That lifts you high above.

What happens when you've found "the one"
and your happy as can be,
What happens when they're taken away
and no ones there for me.

This doesn't happen in fairy tales,
The ending is always sweet,
My man fought his battle,
and ended it in defeat.

He died a hero he did,
Fighting for you and me,
he was due home that day,
I could't wait to see.

But 2 o'clock came, 3 o'clock then 4,
No sign of my Charlie,
Just a knock on the door.

A tall man stood before me,
With a sad look in his eye,
He told me the worst possible news
and i really wanted to cry.

He told me Charlie had died today,
Packing his bag to come home,
two shots to his precious head,
from an attacker who was unknown.

I looked down at my little bump,
tears streaming down my cheeks,
My little boy was without a dad at only a few weeks.

Charlie would have made a great dad,
its all we've ever dreamed.
I was going to break the news today,
I was so excited, i gleamed!

Little Charlie is five now,
and as handsome as his dad,
I know he will be watching from above,
I know he will be glad.

I once thought we got only one chance at true love,
I now know that isn't true,
The love i feel for my child
Is enough for Charlie too.
