What makes a friend?

by Kayleigh Hogg   Oct 22, 2004

This poem is for my best friend Lisa

What makes a friend

What makes a friend?
I asked myself
Is it humour, interests
or maybe wealth.

I looked at you
and you pulled a funny face
I knew in my heart
That this is my place.

Things we'd say,
Things we'd do,
People often thought
We were stuck with glue.

I looked in the dictionary
For the definition of friend
It read:
A person whom one knows, likes and trusts
"That's an understatement" i said.

My definition for you
would be 100 pages long,
We've been though everything together
You've kept me so strong.

But for you my friend
I will name a few,
You always put others before you.
Your always my clown
When i feel blue,
From the bottom of my heart
I thank you.

I want you to know
I'm here to stay,
Whatever life throws at us
I won't drift away.

Lisa and Kay
It just sounds right,
For our friendship
I'd put up a fight.

Sometimes you make me feel happy,
Sometimes you make me feel sad,
I just wanted to tell you,
That your the best friend I've ever had.

As ever, i'd love your comments, love kay xx

True friendship is a very precious thing, and you encapsulated that perfectly. It's the sort of poem that will either put a smile on one's face as they think of a similar friendship in their own life; or bring a tear to their eye, wishing they had one. Great poem.
