One simple question

by ~*^*~ longing to belong ~*^*~   Oct 22, 2004

Today I asked a question,
But I asked it quietly,
For were it to be asked out loud,
It would be silenced instantly,

I asked a question,
That could turn you round,
I asked a question,
To furrow your brow,

I asked a question,
To make you scratch your head,
I asked a question,
To keep you awake in bed,

I asked a question,
To which there is no answer,
Or maybe there are so many,
And you daren’t take a chance,

Do you want to know the question,
To which there is no answer?
Well I must ask the question,
So as you can answer,

The question itself is quite simple,
Nothing complicated,
But you could create your answer,
Or it could be fated,

Today I asked a question,
I simply asked myself,
Why do we bother,
To try make a life for ourselves?

Why do we bother,
To work so hard,
Why do we care,
When we don’t get far,

Why do we bother,
To work until fatigue,
When in the end we will,
Find that none of this is true,

Why do we bother,
To waste our time,
Getting riches and gold,
That don’t help us survive,

Why do we bother,
Talking over the phone,
When all that we do,
Seems to be moan,

Today I asked a question,
And I put it simply,
But the answer cannot,
Be given easily.
