I Watched My Best Friend Die

by Sara   Oct 26, 2004

I watched my best friend die,
she told me I would have to lie.
Her parents couldn't find out,
Her life was full of doubt.

I wanted to stop her,
but it was all a blur.
We smoked and drank so much that night,
I remember her turning out the light.

Whispering in my ear
She said pass me another beer.
Isn't it about time we're done?
This drinking game was no longer fun.

I refused to send her to her grave,
when I said this I began to feel brave.
But she insisted she was all right,
The tone of her voice leaving me with fright.

A few more won't hurt us,
She began to fuss.
She reached over me,
And drank her bottle of beer you see.

I never knew it would be her last.
She chugged it down and drank it fast.
She replied I'm beat
And collapsed from the heat.

I shook her no,
I knew she couldn't go.
But she knew what was going on.
She had planned her being gone.

She had planned for her last day to be with me,
I couldn't let her go, couldn't let her be.
What am I supposed to do?!
Deep down, I know I knew.

I knew she was always sad,
but around me she was always glad.
She always smiled and laughed with me,
I remember when we spent our summer at the sea.

I dialed 911,
and said someone shot my friend with a gun.
She didn't want her parents to know,
that she herself made the blow.

Blue and cherry flashing lights,
Images I see every night.
The paramedic said shes dead
and I knew it was a blow to the head.

I never will forgive myself for this day,
the day my best friend took herself away.
I remain in the solitude of my mind,
But deep in my heart remains our bind.
