Twilight

Twilight

Twilight…

Twilight yields my goodbye, quickly before darkness consumes me
Shall I pursue, and chase you around the ends of the Earth?
No, no this is where I stop. Take some time to contemplate.

This is how it happened, this is what it’s become
This is what we had, look at what we have left
Tomorrow, the sun won’t rise over my horizon

What’s just is just; o what a fool I was
No time to explain, no time for redemption
Twilight, I can see this day leave me, to be branded just another encounter

With nothing to lose, I’ll follow the white rabbit into a world I don’t know
A world without you. I don’t know what I’ll find but I hope it’s a version of you.
Twilight, I should have known it was too good to be true, but I didn’t see it coming

You were always the sun in my sky
But it’s time for change, it’s time to turn the page
I will not pursue

I stand on the shore, you have that back turned on me
Walking down that mountainous hill, I whisper,
“I’ll miss you. My friend, my dearest, don’t forget”

How will it ever be replaced. How will I ever feel so grateful again.
I know you have to go, but you stay here a bit longer
Just to make sure I’m coming along

What we had can’t be replaced, don’t let our memories fade away
Keep them in your heart for always, let it fuel your searing heart
Twilight yields our goodbye, before my darkness consumes me

I feel satisfied, prepared, confident
I hope I can go on without you
I hope it gets a little easier everyday

Quickly, back to my place of refuge, it’s too late now
Even if I were to pursue, the sun is out of reach, it will not rise again
Under this rock, I sit

These memories, dripping down my face, in the weight of these tears
Carrying the sweet essence of our love, bound with inevitable tragedy at end
“Come back”, I cry. “Come back my friend, my dearest, my love. I miss you”

I thought I was satisfied
I thought I was prepared
I thought I was confident

What if I did not hide from the darkness
What if I had no ceased to pursue
What if I did not stop to contemplate

Darkness beckons me in
Twilight; the last

Hints of darkness in addition to melancholy. Good poem.
