Conscious Cocktail

I thought as a murderer
just to see if I could
I walked the shoes of a thief
to get a feel if a would
In the heat of life’s passions
disregard the rules of good

and it strangely seems that yes
if circumstance begged
I would rage until a life was dead
and if my days were fraught with loss
I might just steal what I hadn’t got

but am I evil
to know my reactions?
and if am then by how many fractions
am I from the killer
to whom life is small?

I doubt I’ll know till I take a fall

I read "The Prophet" by that Gibran fellow and there's a paragraph where the prophet dude is talking about how close we are the worst criminal and the highest holy man.

This poem came out of that.
