I tried so hard to open your heart,
To make you think our worlds could start,
From tired seas to skies above,
With me, I hoped, you’d fall in love.

Ignored the fact you loved another,
Easier denial and trials to cover,
Inner tears with outer pride,
To stand as one, you by my side.

Cried myself to sleep at night,
Convinced myself that I was right,
That the nightmare I am in,
Is something I’m imagining.

It hurts how hard I had to try,
To gain your love, and still deny,
She didn’t try, walked in the door,
How could I ever offer more?

All she had to do was live,
She never even had to give,

But to give too much is overkill.
