Independence (Let Me Go, Mom...)

by Nicole   Nov 2, 2004

Mother please
look at me
I'm not the kid I used to be
I have new tastes
I like new things
I live for movies and summer flings
I cannot be innocent again
I can't be the age of ten
I can't see through the eyes of a child
when the life I live
is so crazy and wild
I can't pretend to be your friend
When I know I'm only your daughter
I know that blood is thicker than water
but I need my friends
so mother please
look at me
I'm out of the nest
And ready to be free
So if you will...
let go of my hand
and I beg you please to understand
I'm out of touch and
out of my mind
but no matter where you go
I'm never far behind
