The nightmare

by Kia   Nov 3, 2004

Getting all dressed up
Going out for the night
She gives her mom a kiss
And asks if she looks alright

Her mother was concerned
Though she didn’t know what for
She said, "I'm just going out with my friends,
Mom, please start treating me like I'm twenty-four!"

She got out the door, and started up the car
Glancing at the clock which read quarter till eight
She stepped on the gas and sped off
Realizing she was going to be late

In all the hurry and all the rush
She forgot what might be the most important thing
She paid no attention to the forgotten seat belt
She just turned up the radio and began to sing

She rolled down her window
And let the wind blow her hair
Singing with the radio
Up the road were things of which she was unaware

Up the road and around the curve
The break lights were lit
Cars were slowing down
But she didn’t know it

An hour later
Her friends were still waiting
Looking for her
What to do they were still debating

Wondering where she might be
Why she is so late
This isn't her
She doesn’t make people wait

Another fifteen minutes go by
They tried to call her cell phone
Wondering where she was
Thinking she might have gone home

When they got her voice mail
That's when they really started to worry
They decided to go look for her
They took off in a hurry

They took the road to her house
As they went round the same curve
They were dumbstruck
As they saw where someone had begun to swerve

They pulled the car over
And got out
They looked down the bank
And started to scream and shout

They saw her car
But she was nowhere in sight
Her friends stood there and cried
Overcome with fright

They started to go look for here
But the officers pushed them away
They went back to her house
With her mother overcome with dismay

They sit and cry
Hours later the phone rings
A million and one thoughts run through their minds
They all hope for the best of things

But in their heart of hearts
They know what is right
They saw it themselves
They saw what had happened tonight

As her mother hangs up the phone
She burst out in tears
For that phone call
Has just confirmed her worst fears

In the time that is coming
There will be days that are rough
But we've all been taught a lesson
And one that is very tough
