Through the Eyes Of a Soldier

by Nicole   Nov 4, 2004

Sand is blowing in my eyes again
I miss my family
I miss my friends
The harsh sun beats down on me
My eyes are tired
my stomach's empty
I can't believe this is happening to me
This isn't for the stupid president
I'm out here fighting for my country

Day whatever
I'm losing my count
I'm getting sick from all these
bodies laying around
The smell can kill
to see it is grim
But I'm thrown in this bloodbath
I'll continue to swim
Nothing...nothing can compare
to the sight of this death
It's everywhere

Hello again, my loyal friend
today I nearly met my end
I shot a fire, and then another
I killed a man...
please understand
it phases me so to know
he had a mother, maybe a son or daughter
And I, the culprit of his slaughter
lay here ashamed
this is the most deadly game
and I'll never complain
If I never get to play again

At last destiny calls
I've fought with my all
but even the bravest heros fall
I am no more
but I do not sleep
so do not stand at my grave and weep
Just put my letters all into writing
Celebrate my life and not my demise
Curse those tears that plague your eyes
Believe in the world though hope seems so lost
Though peace will demand much higher a cost
Compassion is something
not entirely untrue
remember, my country
I died for you.
