Mistake

by LeAnNe   Nov 4, 2004

This is a ballad I wrote for my English class... I didn't spend much time on it and I probably could have made it better but perhaps I shall add to it at a later time :-)

-------------------------------------------------

I was only eighteen,
But proud as can be.
Eager to prove everyone,
The strength within me.

I made a mistake.

I believed in our country.
And our president’s voice.
I had so much pride.
So I made a choice.

I made a mistake.

My bag packed, gun in hand,
I left in June, head held high.
I was going to help my country.
I wasn’t going die.

I made a mistake.

When I arrived in Iraq,
I could not believe the sight.
Death was all around me.
People filled with fright.

I made a mistake.

The first battle I ever fought,
I cried when I shot my gun.
It wasn’t supposed to be like this!
They said it would be fun!

I made a mistake.

Two months went by,
I needed a break.
I couldn’t kill anymore!
So many lives were at stake!

I made a mistake.

Then there was an ambush,
Our camp was under fire.
I had been shot in the chest.
Slowly, I began to tire.

I made a mistake.

I was bleeding internally.
Through an artery a bullet tore.
My life was over. Everything gone.
I had died at war.

I made a mistake.
