Daddies grudge

by jescelle   Nov 7, 2004

Daddy doesn't know it,
but his little girl grew up today.
She finally realized that she loves him,
even though he's the monster that hides under her bed at night,
even though he's the one who chases her in her dreams.

Daddy doesn't know it,
but his little girl turned 18 today.
She's got her car,
and her job,
and her college career right in front of her.

Daddy doesn't know it,
but his little girl got married today.
She said her vows,
and gave him their first kiss,
and she gave her foster father his dance.

Daddy doesn't know it,
but he became a grampa today.
the little fingers and toes,
the big brown eyes, just like mommy's,
and he missed it.

Daddy doesn't know it,
but from this moment forward,
Daddy's little girl became a woman,
a woman who doesn't need him,
a woman who's got her own family.

And Daddy doesn't know it,
but the grudge he carried throughout his life,
will make his baby a better person in the end.
