So very young

by silent submission   Nov 8, 2004

Silent;
happy;
young;
a young girl sleeps her last night of tourtureless sleep
unaware of the nightmare she will awaken to
a voice wakes her

scared;
helpless;
younger still;
she walks out and down the hall
she sees what every person fears;
someone hurting her mother

enraged;
defiant;
so very young;
drugs reap the users hidden desires
she puts herself between the one she loves and the abuser
choosing to take blow after blow
a body is a body, hers matters not

terrified;
hurt;
to young for this;
her life flashes as do the sirens yet to save her
she puts herself once more between the source of her fear and the door
she is thrown to one side

trapped;
alone;
younger every moment;
a wall between her and the one she would die to save
locked out from the pain
kept away from it all

a cry;
a crash;
an ending.
