The CEO

The rusty barrel sits in the alley way
orange that glows from inside it.
A man dressed in dirty clothes
his hair dreaded and gringy.
Places his hands above the barrel
warming them up from the cold.

A man walks by the alley way
gives a snide remark.
"get a job you lazy bum"
then turns and walks away.
He dressed so properly in his business
suit that day, brief case in hand.

A child skips down the street
looks upon the old building.
Takes her hand and rubs the window
peers inside and sees a ghostly image.
The man in a suit caring a brief case,
soon would take a fall.

His business would go under
his family would be no more.
Red ran like blood upon his check book.
Soon everything around him turns
to darkness and cold.

Sitting in the alley way
he burns some old newspapers.
Always standing in front of the barrel
orange that glows from inside it.
The man who once criticized others
became who he once criticized.

And so the little girl shrugging the image off,
Came across a dirty man,
told him she was sorry.
Then placed a quarter in his cup.
The man just smiled and the little girl skipped away.

thank you for your comments :) I personally love this poem, i beilve its my favorite or at least the top 3 of favorites. Its sad how sometimes we can blow off the misfourtante and not even reilze that they are people too. They all had families at one point in their lives. Once I took a picture of a homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk. Mind you I had it in my mind that all homeless were drunks and bums and didnt' deserve the sidewalk they lay on. So I took the picture to be a B(i)tch, then when i got home i could swear you could see sadness emeanting from around him. I started to change my mind after that. They are people too, and people need to reilze that.

Hey, that was pretty good. I had to read it a few times to get the meaning.. I got kinda confused once you started bringing in the little girl, but generally I like it a lot!
