About Profanity

by Fisherman   Nov 11, 2004

Profanity has its place;
Emphatically speaking, there’s no disgrace
In a bleep or a curse
When used in proper verse.

It needs its setting, its forum, its nurture
To present it’s strongest stature;
So weak it is to stand alone
Where it diminishes the verse’s tone.

Yet when preparation precedes it
The power of the verse succeeds it,
As when there’s nothing else to say
But Hay! By cracky! Or What a day!

    My last line evidences my own level of discomfort with profanity I think. Thanks for the comment -- I respect your thoughts.

    Good venting, jessica! Now while I think profanity has an important but limited role in verse, I respect the fact that you disagree. Best wishes to you!
