Lest We Forget

*This is a poem, I wrote for Remembrance day*

Hiding in the deep, dark trench,
Waiting for their perfect chance,
Fear is the only thing they can quench,
Their minds stuck in an eternal trance.

Bombs exploding in every direction,
Deafened by the horrific sound,
Far from any sort of perfection,
Only to war they are bound.

Every time they close their tired eyes,
A picture of home comes to mind.
Nobody can hear their cries,
Always lonesome for what they have left behind.

Not knowing if they will live or die,
Is this breath my last?
Is this my day to say goodbye?
Oh, how this torture is so vast.

They pray to God at night,
“Help me survive through this war!
I strive to win the fight,
This pain, can you cure?”

But not all people survive,
Not all wounds can be healed.
Not all brave soldiers are now alive
They lie at rest in Flanders Field.

Take the time to just sit and ponder
On what those patriotic soldiers did for us.
Think about how their lives were torn asunder
Be thankful to them- we must!

Some gave up everything they had
To make this country free.
A son, wife, husband and dad
Is what they were, you see.

Put yourself in their shoes
If you had to go to war,
Is it something that you would choose?
Their bravery is something you, now ignore.

For all those courageous soldiers alive today,
Let them know that you care.
Bravery is something they did portray,
At night, take time to say a prayer.

Thank you for what you have done,
You made our lives able to permit,
You took away our darkness and gave us sun,
For that, we will never forget

This is great. Your good at putting yourself in their shoes and portraying what their feelings and reactions to situations are. Not many people can do that convincingly. You are a great great writer.

very nice, the rhymes are good cuz they aren't obvious, they make sense in the sentences... great job!
