Politics Make Me Sick!

Politics Makes Me Sick!

We have completed another election;
Our country’s response was as if it weathered an infection,
A sickness replete with temperatures high
And hyperbole in describing the other guy.

Politics makes me sick!
Candidates forget that my mind is quick
To perceive the issues and to make the puzzle pieces fit,
Yet sound byte monologue is as deep as the discussion gets.

It used to be that all politics were local:
How the issue effected me was most focal.
Now national races too have become more heated
No issue now avoids being locally cleated.

Principle no longer guides our political decision;
Ideology (the litmus test) does so with precision.
I am so nauseous with the shallow debate
It is a dialog worthy of hate.

Yet compelled am I to participate in each election
Once again to incubate the pernicious infection.
Whether out of duty, guilt or habit, you see,
It seems to be the best system to maintain liberty.
