I'll Pray

“I saw your arm,” she said to me.
“The fresh cuts upon your wrist.
You cannot keep on hiding it,
You can’t go on like this.”

“You can’t keep hurting your best friends,
And making them feel down.
You’re making them as bad as you…”
She whispered, staring at the ground.

“At least give me a chance…
I know you don’t care what I say,
But let me tell you how much I care…
Why you should live another day.”

“If you really cared,” I yelled,
Voice rising as I cried,
“You’d go away, and leave me be…
You’d leave me here to die.”

My friend let out a high-pitched laugh…
Soon strangled by her tears.
“How could you ever say that?
I’ve been by your side for years!”

I said, “Why bother to even speak?
I know that you don’t care…
You promised me, remember?
‘I’ll be with you, anywhere.’”

“’I’ll never tell your secret,
I make sure it’s kept safe.’
And now you say you’re sorry…
Well, it’s just a little late!”

“I never said ‘I’m sorry,’”
She replied, hiding a smirk.
“And now I’m glad I never did…”
Her voice was filled with mirth.

I could tell that she was angry,
So I turned and walked away.
And then I heard her whisper:
“I’ll pray for you. I’ll pray.”
