Reflections

In the morning, this girl wakes up,
Stumbles out of bed,
And stands in front of her mirror.

Her eyes gaze at her reflection,
Hideous,
Fat,
Worthless.
And a tear slips down her cheek.

The drawer below is opened, hands reach in,
And from inside they remove
A mask.
A happy face,
A loving smile.
A lie.

The mask takes the shape
Of her face.
Trickery in the most accurate form.

She picks up her bag, schoolbooks and hat,
And walks out the door.

Her freckled face
Happy.
Her brown eyes
Sparkling.
But her heart…
Aching.
