My Torpid Crucifix

by Carrie   Nov 16, 2004

I gaze at my reflection
As I tear my destroyed
Broken crucifix from my throat
I listen as it cascades to earth
And hits with a clang
Only heard by my ears
On single black tear falls
Landing with my
Abandoned crucifix
Enmity runs through
My black veins
Stronger than ever before
Blood runs from the wound
Caused by my torpid crucifix
Staining my pale skin
Two drops fall
Landing on my
Estranged crucifix
A scream escapes me
As I walk away
To exist
In my own world
With just a scar
To remind me of my faith

*timidly walking in onto what may be a friendly catfight* Hey, I love this poem. I havent been around here long but this is among the few depressing poems I've been reading that is worthwhile. Love the weight and the symbolism that the crucifix carries. Well done.
