A BEACON OF LIGHT

by Saige   Nov 16, 2004

Your name would arise
Time to time these past years
Of course I’d asked questions
Each time it appeared

We met the first time
On the trip to river run
You seemed rather nice
With you we had fun

I asked someone dear
What you meant too him
He said “We’re dear friends”
One who brightens days dim

Then the day came
I heard a bird sing
That the wedding bells
Were about to ring

For so many years
Our uncle lived alone
From friendship to love
A relationship had grown

On the beach that day
In the warm summer sun
The two of you joined
Your hearts became one

At first I was jealous
A fear hit my heart
Would she take away the one
Who gives us that spark

Mom would say, “Give it time”
And maybe you’ll learn
What it is she provides
That your uncle has yearned

This past summer month
Our annual trip we did take
A month in the mountains
It was our yearly escape

This time would be different
For you would be there
Was there room for us
Were you willing to share

But share you did
There was so much more
You opened your heart
A welcome mat at the door

Though it was only a month
I learned so much
Your warm gentle ways
Your sweet caring touch

For all of his losses
All the sorrows and tears
I began to see an angel
One to enlighten left years

You gathered in one
Then suddenly three
No longer on your own
But with instant family

In an instant you flew
Rushed to be by our sides
Like a beacon of light
Guiding all through rough tides

With your kind gentle prayers
And that oh so special smile
For hours you‘d hold me
Ease the pains for awhile

A mother suddenly gone
You say you can’t replace
My love for you grows
Each time I see your face

Though life is uncertain
There are no guarantees
With you by our side
Most the pains they will ease

I have but one request
As I deal with the fears
Please be there each night
To kiss away my tears
