The Lost Ones

by Lance Hardy   Nov 17, 2004

Here for the fighting
But instead, they die
Boys of cunning
Tricked into a lie

Young and proud
But fools at heart
Their minds in a cloud
Their plans in a chart

Marched off to war
To become real men
Unaware of the gore
That waits in that den

Their ideas were crossed
When they killed a man
Innocence was lost
Chips hit the fan

Two ways to leave
Both, not fun
Death or victory achieved
They grabbed a gun

Every single day
They lost some more
But held at bay
Still, no door

No end in sight
They lost all hope
Some laughed in fright
Others turned to dope

Insanity pursued
Those not strong
Their minds turned crude
Yet still, no gong

Here for the fighting
But instead, they die
Slowly rotting
The unburied lie

======================
This is about the soldiers who died for a cause or no cause at all, those drafted or those enlisted. Poor souls sent to fight our battles for whatever purpose...thanks.
Just to clear this up, in the 8th stanza, the line "Yet still, no gong"...in ancient china when a leader or general wanted his men to retreat, he sounded a gong so...ya.
