The battle of life or death (long poem)

by ~*^*~ longing to belong ~*^*~   Nov 17, 2004

Steps across flowerbed,
Heart heavy with dread,
Shouldn’t be like this.

Goes up to door,
Clearly unsure,
Not her fault.

Goes into house,
Quiet as a mouse,
Too scared.

Can hear him snoring,
He’s been out drinking,
Again.

Creep past the room,
But fated to doom,
He hears.

Rolls of the sofa,
Tries to punch her,
Misses,

Makes him more angry,
Makes her feel guilty,
Submissive.

She lets him hit her,
Think it what she deserve,
But it isn’t,

He tells her she done wrong,
She took to long,
Shopping,

Hits her again,
She numb to the pain,
Felt it too much,

Finally he had enough,
Just one last shot, to make him laugh,
So savagely,

Slouches back to the chair,
Tells her to beware,
Of him,

Run upstairs,
Swallowing tears,
Of sadness,

Slams the door,
Falls to floor,
And silently screams,

Takes out the blade,
Finds the cut she made.
Yesterday.

Sawing at her arm,
Don’t care about the harm,
Causing herself,

Suddenly more pain,
Hit a vein,
Blood pouring,

Drenching clothes,
Staining bed covers,
Dark red,

Falls back against bed,
Brimming eyes filled with dread,
For the future,

Knows she can’t stop now,
Already took the last bow,
It’s over,

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Don’t bother to stop the flow,
You might as well show,
The world your fears,
Tell them how you miss your mother,
Since she eloped with her lover,
Left you with him,
Tell them how he beat you black,
Blamed you when he left the track,
Blamed you for everything,
Tell them how he made you petrified,
Even to go inside,
Your own home,
How he touched you in places,
You don’t dare mention,
Try to forget,
How he left you alone for days on end,
While he went of on another bend,
Full of drink and drugs,
How he left no cash,
Made do off your secret stash,
Of pennies,
Painfully saved,
For the day you could escape,
This hell,
How you were bullied at school,
Because you weren’t cool,
Like them,
How you had nowhere to run,
And you never had fun,
Until now,
Now you are dying,
You feel you are flying,
It’s a let out,
You are free at last,
You can forget your past,
Leave it behind,
Behind the closed windows,
Of your blank eyes,
You are gone,
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A few hours later he stumbles in,
After throwing up in the bin,
Looks around,

Sees the body….

Outstretched arm in a pool of blood,
A sight which would,
Forever haunt him,

Death white face,
Not a hair out of place,
Peaceful in heaven,

Troubled breath silenced,
Released from the violence,
Smothering it,

Red rose on her chest,
Proving in rest,
She won the battle,

Of life or death.
