First night

by Jacqui Armstrong   Nov 20, 2004

She lay down alone in the bed
Still waiting for him a tear she shed
She closed her eyes he still did not come
The damage in this relationship already was done

But it was no fault between him or her
His last sight was one big blur
She escaped with a broken arm
But it was him who took all the harm

He un-did his seatbelt and dived onto her lap
Held her close as they entered the trap
He said, “I’m sorry and I love you so much”
She said “why us?” and tightened her clutch

As they hit the wall she took a deep breath
Out of the window he flew to his death
She opened her eyes and screamed with fright
Never again will she forget this night

Their first night as husband and wife
He had a few pints and lost his life
It’s not hard to stay alive
Do your sums, don’t drink and drive!
