All In A Day

Crunch Crunch
Your foot steps are approaching
Crushing the little flakes of ice
As you get to the bench
Put on your skates
And float across the ice
The sun a rises
As if it were a bright summer day
But you can tell its not
Because I can still see my breath
As it crystallizes in the coldness of this sunny winter day
As my time passes by
I go back to the bench
Take off my skates
Grab my shoes and walk
Walking walk walking
As I reach the door I can smell
The sweet smell of cherry pine burning in the wood stove
I open the door and smell sweet maple syrup
Mom must be making pancakes
Walk to the table sit
Hear moms voice how many
I say 3
Huge pile fat and fluffy
Drenched in maple syrup
As I eat away at them
Drink my bitter butter milk
And I’m out
Back outside walking
Crunching the snow
I look ahead
Hearing the branches crackling above
I seek an old path
Narrow and slim
Back into the deep woods
Where father and I used to hunt
Rabbits, deer, squirrels
All of the above
Sometimes I can still hear his voice
Whispering in the wind
Breath, breath, pull
I got it every time
I sometimes miss him
Even though I can feel him every day
On the ice I skate
In the smoke I smell from the fire
And in the middle of my heart
Where I can always notice him
It’s hard growing up
And waking every day without a father
But ad least I have memories
That will last a life time
Its late fallow my tracks
Step Step Crunch Crunch
Back out into the opened
Where my little house sits
Smoke bellowing out the chimney
Just like in a painting
So beautiful and still
Walking walk walking
Enter the house
Kiss mom goodnight
Brush my teeth
Lay in bed
Fall asleep
And dream
Dream about my day on the ice
In the snow
With the smell of cherry pine in my nose
As I fall back into my dream
And sleep the night away
All in a day
