Took it back

by Mild insomnia   Nov 21, 2004

I hate what I’ve brought you to be,
Baby,
I can’t believe that I made you so unreal,
For this, I’m sorry,
But you messed me up, and I returned the favour,
Apologies for my behaviour.
Can’t we please go back to what we were?

Can you still hear me?
When I scream clearly,
I’m sorry, love you dearly,
I think I’ve crossed a line here…

How could I think?
That if I changed your mind,
A single time,
I would find the missing link.
I only tried to,
Make you feel love,
I gave just enough,
And then I took it back from you.

I swear, to help was all I wanted,
Haunted,
By all the things that I never really sorted,
I’m left daunted.
Still you broke my heart, and I will not forget,
Somedays I wish we never met,
It’s one of the things that I truly regret.

Except when you’re happy,
Happy to be with me,
It’s like I found the key,
But it crumbles quickly.

How could I think?
That if I changed your mind,
A single time,
I would find the missing link.
I only tried to,
Make you feel love,
I gave just enough,
And then I took it back from you.

I guess this is what happens when you try to fix something that is truly beyond broken.
It can only crack a little further.
