Cinderella

by Michael D Nalley   Nov 23, 2004

I went to the City Limits, while I was in "Never Never Land"
The land of fantasy and fairytales, I believe you understand
It was there, I first met Cinderella, with an ashtray in her hand
She had a pretty face. her hair so beautiful, I stared at every strand

I was getting over a fantasy, which in reality, was doomed from the start
In the land of fairytales, I wouldn't have felt the reality of a broken heart
But like a fool I tried to turn my dreams into reality, and it really did smart
When I learned my dream girl, never really wanted to be my sweetheart

I was wounded by love. My heart was left with a terrible scar
I stopped, that day, at a place known as the City Limits Bar
Where people go to play games to find out who they are
There was Cinderella, looking just like she could be a star

I am an honest liar, who takes pride in humility,
Who could not wait, for another foolish fantasy.
That would thrust me back into the bliss of ecstasy
Far from the reach of crazy sorrow, and reality

If I go from rags to riches in the sorrow of the night
In the fantasy of a summers dream, in the chill of a winters light
I will never be sorry for having seen such a beautiful sight
May her nights be filled with laughter, and her days sunny and bright

The prince might have held on to Cinderella, if he had not slipped and fell I have learned never to attempt to possess beauty, only to serve it well
But you should never say never because you never can tell
I would rather serve forever in heaven, as to reign in hell

In my weakness, I may one day return to the fantasy land of never never
I must be careful not to let go of the Hand that leads me to forever and ever
The Hand that reaches out to sinners with pity
The Hand which can lead us to the Holy City

You scale the true art of compassion...and your appreciation for romance engaged me. All these fairy tales we all know, it doesn't have to be so pretend. Inspiring!
