What If?

by Lipton   Nov 24, 2004

What if I hadn't come here?
How many lives would be saved?
And how many would be lost?
How many memories would be forgotten,
Hidden beneath Time's frost?

What if I hadn't intervened?
How many friendships would be made?
And how many would be broken?
How many angry words,
Would never have been spoken?

What if I didn't listen?
How many people would be lost?
And how many would be found?
How many people would be tormented,
Beating upon the ground?

What if I didn't speak?
What would people think?
What would people say?
What would people do,
If I hadn't stood in their way?

What if I never existed?
How many holes would there be?
How many people would still be crying?
How many cuts, would scar the wrists,
Of those that are close to dying?

So take a moment, to stop and think.
Place the knife upon your desk.
You've impacted more lives than you think you know,
And this selfish act won't heal the rest.
