Forgotten and Abandoned

Forgotten And Abandoned

Forgotten and abandoned
Broken pieces here and there
Neglected and exploited
What’s left is now laid bare.

So rich, so resourceful
When you were in your prime
Now cold and degraded
Subject of a malicious crime.

Yes we danced with roses
When you I first knew;
Now your life has taken
A much more tawdry point of view.

Your stones are cold and broken
Crushed beyond repair
All that remains of your luster
Now prompts a grotesque stare.

You need to have your holes filled in,
Your private parts recovered.
Greed has had her way with thee
It is evident you have suffered.

You are an abandoned coal mine,
The remnants and the forms
Yet now your ugliness
Exceeds all prior norms.

What good is left of you this day?
Perhaps there is some
In the eye of a beholder
Who with vision comes.

Someone who envisions good
Who sees an obligation due,
Until that time I promise to
Remember how we profited from you.

My prayer is this, may faith hold out
A time will come and on that day
Our moral debt to you
We oblige to repay.

I believe God reckons once
With those who lives take,
Yet reckons He a second time
When an environmental mess we make.

So I hope that you will accept my pledge
Your luster to renew,
And I hope in heart you can forgive
The violence inflicted on you.

I was trying to achieve a meaningful pause :>) ... but if it doesn't sound right to your ears, it didn't pull it off. Thanks for the advice; I think I will take it.
