I am but a player onstage, wearing a grinning mask

by Emily Andrews   Nov 29, 2004

I am but a player onstage, wearing a grinning mask
I wonder what its like to show my true colors
I hear the crowd laugh along with me
I see how they all enjoy life
I want desperately to be that happy
I am but a player onstage, wearing a grinning mask

I pretend to be what people want me to be
I feel alone and used
I touch my mask know I could never take it off
I cry behind the curtain when no one can see me
I am but a player onstage, wearing a grinning mask

I understand who it is I am knowing I cannot change
I say the words off the script
I dream of living without this mask
I try to be myself and stop this acting
I hope one day I can find other work
I am but a player onsatge, wearing a grinning mask
