Mask

by Debra   Dec 3, 2004

The mask she wears
Covers her well
No one has exposed it yet
It fits just right
Making sure
That none of her real self shows through
It hides the tears
The blood
The anger
And the doubt
It hides it all
Without one spec of evidence
When you look at her
You only see a smiling face
Someone who cares so much
About everyone else’s welfare
That you don’t even begin to think
She cares nothing about her own
Her life is at the bottom of her priorities
Pain is not her fear
It is her closest friend
Who would have guessed
That behind those glittering eyes and welcoming smile
There was a girl who wished she would suffer?
A girl that thrived off of her own pain
Her own blood
No one would have imagined
That she was her own worst enemy
That she harmed herself more
Than any other harsh words or abuse had ever done
It was her choice
To make herself suffer
It was her choice
To cover her real feelings
