Perspective of a Pilate

by Steevens   Dec 4, 2004

What is truth?
Truth is life and life is love,
And we all know who love is.

I found no reason to kill the man,
But the people who want him dead
Won't stop yelling for his head.
Of all of this I wash my hands.

What is truth?
Truth is life and life is love,
And we all know who love is.

Well here's your king, you want to kill.
What I have written I have written,
But I won't let guilt hold me in.
I see his dear mother, and I'm stuck standing still.
I hear his fain voice, struggling in anguish.
"Forgive them Lord, they just don't know."
I remember the things the scripture does show.
Could this be the man in all of that language?

What is truth?
Truth is life and life is love,
And we all know who love is.

He's thirsty he says,
Forsaken he says.
He's committing his spirit.
I think to myself, "could this be the end?"
Then weakest of all,
Comes that very faint voice
With powerful words
Leaving no other choice.
It is finished.
