You...

by Kaitlin Kristina   Dec 4, 2004

This poem is not main stream and many people will not quite understand it. Let me know what you think or comment with questions and I will answer them. Thanks guys!

Would it not be shocking to look into a mirror
And not see yourself?
And you would be stuck in a confusion,
“Where am I?”
You would ask.
But the mirror cannot explain itself…
It won’t talk back.
You would slowly reach your hand… your right hand
Out and you would almost touch it…
But find yourself doubting what it is.
What is this object?
It reflects all that is around it…
Why won’t it reflect you-
Are you there? You bring your hand back as if your thought had bitten it.
Or you would if a right hand existed.
You look down at you.. Or what should be “you.”
“You” don’t have a “you”.
You have eyes though, you can see…. Cant “you?”
Well you are looking… so therefore you must have to have something to see with.
What does sight constitute of, though… I mean really.
Is it more of a bodily function?
Or is it more of an observance type of “thing.”
If you are not there who are “you”?
Are you a spirit.
Who is the “you”? “You” don’t have a body… “you” don’t have the eyes…
And “you” are not able to reflect in anything else.
So who is to say what constitutes “you”, when everything but “you” exists.
You try to reach out with your left hand but “you” don’t have one…
So why do you think “you” are. Your right never went anywhere either.
“It” couldn’t.
There is no “it” in a “you”, so the “you” is who?

Thats ok. This whole poem is questioning what existance is, who can percieve it, and what dictates its reality. People may have to read it a few times to understand it or begin to relate to it at all.
    With love, K Kristina
