Too young to die

by Lyss is dead   Dec 8, 2004

One that cold winter night
You were taken away
Your casket was lowered into the snow
Where it would forever stay.

The ice-capped trees and bushes
Lost their beauty and their grace
When all that could be seen
Was your silent, frozen face.

The people all around you
Fell to the ground and cried
For it was too late to help you
Because nobody had tried.

You were only 21
With a full life left ahead
You could have grown up normally
But you crossed death’s path instead.

As the casket’s lid was closed
We said a little prayer
Of how we hope you were happy
As you watched us from up there.

The silence overcame us
As if the world stopped breathing
Because up until that moment
It hadn’t set in that you were leaving.

But we know that you are with us
Even though we can’t see you
You’re up above the clouds
And now we can not free you.

You’re stuck up there forever
But it won’t be that long
Till we’ll all be up there with you
In the place that we belong.
