A Soul Speaks Out on Genocide

A Soul Speaks Out on Genocide

What can be said to make sense of it all?
Does cruelty rule the world after all?

Is there a motive or rationale
Which could justify these acts as banal?

Is cruelty defined by the culture we’re in
Or something more absolute such as sin?

The world stands witness to genocide
Yet nation after nation turns its face to hide.

Families and children constantly in fear
Of death by a bullet, rock or spear.

While diplomats cajole, write letters and ponder
Murdering thugs see more lives to squander.

What heart can’t feel sick for the lives that are lost
Yet our spirits can not comprehend the ultimate cost.

A soul must speak out to condemn these cruel acts
Or face death as certain as those killed by the axe.
