Virtue

by Elizabeth Ann   Dec 12, 2004

Before...

I cannot breath so loud lest I’m responsible.

Sleepless while my life begs.

My only weapon’s virtue for your wisdom.

Everything for your good.

I’ll never let you down...

Just love me when I’m gone.

During...

Compassion becomes my bitterness when my heart wakes...

When ignorance could have rushed me into impulse I neglected laughter.

My degraded honor has left me alone without those who would contradict me.

And I cannot not lie even for my shame...

After...

I mime their leniency...

Satisfying this mercy that I’m gone...

Silent while they compliment my failures...

This feels like listening in on somebody's narrative lines from a really unusual play....almost too esoteric.........but not quite......

    Brilliant, actually...bravo..

Such an obfuscated figure... not the clear presentations of character revealed before... or is there truth in the darting nature? I think this introspection is terribly insightful and poignant. How often do we all become something that we'd rather not be? Or enact the proverbial trine denial?

"When ignorance could have rushed me into impulse I neglected laughter."

Wow, you certainly know how to put together a few words and turn them into something powerful. I love your use of symbolism, and i absolutly love the last line. great job
