My Heart

by Robyn Thomas   Dec 12, 2004

My heart is yours to configure
Warp it to any shape you like
You leave it the way it is-that figures
I want you to take it, this isn't a fight

It's sort of like a compromise
You get my heart and I get you
I don't care about all the lies
I just want to start anew

My heart will always be there
On my sleeve, or on my coat
"That way you will always know where
It will be"-That's what I wrote

I didn't know the mistake in this
Didn't know what I was in for
Didn't know what would happen from that first kiss
When you left me at my door

I should've been more cautious
And asked a few more questions
But now I'm feeling nauseous
As you ignore my gestures

You left me for that woman
Who's name I don't remember
I should've known that you were just foolin'
You said you'd be there forever

I'm really not that jealous
If you did it to me you'll do it to her
But you left me incredulous
And my heart feels that you are a cur

You actually took my heart
And broke it before you left
You left all the shattered pieces on the carpet
And silently away you crept

Now I've learned my lesson
"Don't put your heart on your sleeve"
Because then your love will take that lesson
Break your heart, and leave
