First Day

by Leah20   Dec 15, 2004

He got there early in the morning
His first day had begun
He was so excited
He didn't know what this date was to become

He hopped into the elevator
Rode all the way to the 101st floor
He searched through the hallway
Finally finding the right door

He set down his supplies
Admired his office plaque
He then set out to work
Never looking back

He didn't know what was coming
He had no way to escape
When the first plane struck the tower
He knew this was his fate

It didn't hurt that much
The pain receded fast
His mind still to recalling the events
Of the day that was to be his last

He'd woke up sick
But gone to work anyway
He kissed his wife good-bye
Said "I Love you, I'll be okay"

He'd left his house
And that's all of which he could recall
Then a feeling of extasy over came him
He knew that this was the end that had met them all

When the jets struck the towers
On September 11, 2001
Pain was cause that will not heal
And cannot be undone

Though we can erect monuments
Dedicated to their memories
We can't bring them back to life
Or make their families pain recede
