Lovers and Fools

by Jackie Bilson   Dec 18, 2004

Love's been flowing through the veins,
Corruption, destruction, all the same.
One thing to separate life and death apart,
Your pathetic but still beating heart.

Pain is felt but only love is heard,
Brain screaming that this is absurd.
But the heart is deaf to common sense,
Shrieks of affection, naive but intense.

Burn and consume, fall and break,
Fools rush in and beg to take.
They embrace the hurt of joy and sorrow,
Forgetting consequences that will haunt tomorrow.

But who am I to degrade these beings?
Those creatures basking in each other's feelings?
For I myself know the pull of this potion,
It lures you in it's clutches and seduces your emotions.

Envious are those who never feel the power,
The growing and blooming of this passionate flower.
They ridicule and mock the sensations we feel,
But these poor souls will never know that it's real.

So never run away from Venus's call,
She may set you up but it's worth fall.
Treasure this gift granted to you by Cupid,
You may be naive but you'll never be stupid.
