Tell Me I'm Not Trying

by Nici   Dec 18, 2004

Look me in the eyes, then tell me I’m not trying,
By putting on this smile, I hide my teary crying.
The thoughts inside my head, grow sadder each new day
And make me more depressed in hundreds of new ways

Yet still I smile on and laugh and joke and play,
Pretending to be happy, but being forced to stay.
If only I could leave and end this life I live,
The next world would be better a gift I’d love to give.

Even though it's a work in progress, I love it.
'Look me in the eyes, then tell me I’m not trying,
By putting on this smile, I hide my teary crying' They're my favourite lines.

It's a great poem! I've been writing since I was 13 (I'm 16 now) and there's no such thing as a work in progress. The words you put on a page at first are the real things, not the edited mask. I think your poem is perfect the way it is. Don't change any of it! And keep up the great writing!
