"Left To Love Alone"

by CinnamonTwirl   Dec 18, 2004

The first time I loved a boy
I vowed never to do it again
The good times go unnoticed when compared to the pain
It began with a shy girl
Head tilted and eyes glancing up
Smiling for no reason like a child on Christmas Day
Everything about him made her happy

The feelings were mutual
He could do no wrong
Conversation until the break of dawn
She was completely engulfed with him
Blinded by love unable to realize the train wreck ahead

Until the day he decided she wasn't good enough
But rather a girl who has once befriended her
Teary eyed but strong she said okay
But behind closed doors she was distraught
Left to love alone

He saw this and realized his ‘mistake’
But she couldn't do it
Emotional space was needed
She had lost her sense of self in him

And today she cries
Not because she misses him
But because she realizes that she is okay without him

*Please comment. I need criticism. this is the 2nd poem I have ever written...this and "now that we're apart*©

Been there and climbed out alone. I bet you think in hindsight that you are better off for the experience.

    Great poem.

hi, I read your poem and it helped me.... my boyfriend of 2 years broke up with me yesterday and it hurt me, and i thought it was for another girl, but he came back to me today. I didn't take him back right away because i thought about what you wrote... but we talked and we're working it out... thanks for your poetry, you're awesome at it. write me sometime...
