I Remember

by Chelsea   Dec 19, 2004

As I fall into my spot on the parade square
I remember the cadets of the past
I remember the sound of war in the air
And the hopes that this sound would not last

I remember the boom of the bombs dropping down
The crackling from guns and rifles
The small cries from the hidden mothers and children
All that were trying to be stifled

I remember the song of the triumphant bugle
Beautifully playing the last post
I remember the soldiers going to bed
Missing the ones they loved most

I remember the sound of a fighter plane
In combat, fighting faster and faster
The dark shadow that passed by overhead
At the passing of the Avro Lancaster

I remember the pride in a veteran\'s voice
As he told the stories from his past
His acts of heroism and amazing feats
Making sure that that sound did not last

And now as we bow our heads in silence
As we pray on this day in November
We pray for the soldiers who diminished that sound
And for that we will always Remember
